Marble is usually veined, fine-textured material that comes in virtually unlimited color selections.
Granite is distinguished by its unique crystal pattern or small flecks. It has poor primary permeability overall, but strong secondary permeability through cracks and fractures if they are present. Granite is a very hard material that is often used in construction.
Onyx tends to be more crystalline, strongly banded, and colored in browns to yellows and clear. It can be translucent, and light-colored varieties sliced thin are use for attractive backlit display panels or even light-admitting windows.
Quartzite is a hard, non-foliated metamorphic material that was originally pure quartz. It’s a decorative stone and is use for wall cladding, roofing tiles, and flooring. It is also used for countertops in kitchens due to its harder and more resistant to stains than granite.
